Our Community At Harbor

The Harbor County Day School community comprises not only current students and alumni, and our faculty and staff, but also their loved ones. When a student matriculates at Harbor, their family also becomes a part of our community.

Parents of current students are automatically members of the Harbor Country Day School Parents’ Association, which is led by current parents. All parents are encouraged to sign up for one or more of the many volunteer opportunities available each year, both to meet other parents and stay in touch with what’s going on at Harbor Country Day School.

The Parents' Association is dedicated to promoting a sense of community, facilitating communication between Harbor and its families, and raising funds for programs and events that enrich and enhance school life.

Parents' Association participation is an amazing opportunity to get to know other families, experience a slice of Harbor students' school lives, and become involved in the life of Harbor. The group meets on a monthly basis. For more information about the many ways parents can contribute, the Parents' Association coordinators may be reached at parentsassociation@hcdsny.org.

Harbor’s Alumni Association helps to foster and continue lasting relationships between Harbor’s alumni and the school they graduated from and love. The foundation for these relationships is built through communication, organized group events, opportunities to volunteer, and helping to create connections among Harbor’s many alumni.

In addition to keeping in touch via social media, Harbor Alumni are also invited back to join us for events throughout the course of the school year including:

• Trunk or Treat (October 29, 2023)
• HCDS Turkey Bowl (November 23, 2023)
• Alumni Game Night (January 5, 2024)
• March Madness (March 8, 2024)
• Annual Spring Benefit (March 22, 2024)
• Field Day (May 23, 2024 - rain date is May 31, 2024)

Yet another way you may stay connected to Harbor is through our official school communications, such as the annual digital alumni newsletter, our This Week in Pictures slideshow, and our semi-annual Harbor Highlights magazines. If you haven't done so recently, please take a moment to update your contact information with our Alumni Questionnaire so we can be sure that you are receiving these communications.

Finally, if you happen to be in the area, why not make plans to stop by Harbor for a visit? We always welcome our alumni with open arms, at any time of the year, and our current students enjoy the opportunity to visit with the alumni who walked the halls of Tulip Knoll before them.

Harbor Country Day School values and embraces the extraordinary individuality in every child. Teachers at Harbor are acutely aware of each child’s interests, strengths, and challenges, and they incorporate that understanding into personalized learning processes for each student.

When children are members of a warm, caring community, and under the care of talented and compassionate teachers who embrace them for who they truly are, children’s confidence is bolstered, their receptors for learning are wide open, and their will to learn is boundless.

The board of Harbor Country Day School is a self-perpetuating entity charged with governance of the school, namely, the strategic, long-term protection and strengthening of the school’s financial, physical, and programmatic assets. Harbor’s board is comprised of current and former parents, alumni, and friends from surrounding communities. Members of Harbor Country Day School’s Board of Trustees are unpaid volunteers dedicated to the school’s past, present, and future. The head of Harbor Country Day School is an ex-officio member of the board of trustees, without vote.
